LinkedIn Maude

A refresh of Pivot's original 2017 design to LinkedIn's 950 and 1000 buildings, this project was driven by a desire to foster a renewed sense of community and belonging.

In collaboration with Gensler, Pivot undertook a significant update to LinkedIn's workspace at its 950 and 1000 Maude locations to address evolving needs resulting from the pandemic. New café and coworking spaces on each ground floor serve as dynamic amenities, resulting in a more connected and engaging campus overall.

The original design—characterized by darker, monochromatic elements—was transformed into a lighter, more colorful environment. The use of white and vibrant colors, along with biophilic elements, significantly brightened the space. Grand connecting stairs act as a backdrop to collaborative landing spaces on each level, establishing a cohesive look and feel throughout the common areas. Microkitchens and touchdown zones are energized by environmental graphics that reinforce the LinkedIn brand while encouraging connectivity.

In an effort to diversify the work floors, the design incorporates fewer designated workstations and introduces more alternative workpoints in the open plan. Larger, mixed-use areas with collaborative tables support both high-tech and low-tech interactions, enriching the neighborhood experience. Smaller breakout zones and focus areas were added to provide privacy for video calls and to offer LinkedIn employees greater choice in how and where they work.

By repurposing existing workstations, conference tables, and other existing inventory, LinkedIn achieved a revitalized look in an environmentally responsible and sustainable way. The clever combination of reused, reconfigured, and new furniture was a key factor in the project’s success, as the new layout opens up to create a more diverse and adaptable workspace.
